Charitable Company Limited (CCL) provides a range of Education Grants across the full education spectrum, from pre-school to tertiary education.


Charitable Company Limited Education Grants are distributed under Maori Community Purposes section 218 of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 and the Charities Act 2005.

All Education Grants are available to registered Beneficial Owners of TN2T (spouses/partners excluded).

Education Grants are split into the following categories:

  • Pre-School Grants
  • TN2T Before School Programme
  • New Entrant: Quarter One, Quarter Two and Quarter Three Grants
  • School Education Grants - Year 1 to Year 13
  • Subsidised Tuition Programme
  • Tertiary Grants (Full-time or Part-time at a Tertiary Provider)
  • Registered Vocational/Pathway Course Grants (generally short-term, industry-specific courses).

School-age Grants - Applications close 31 March each year.

Pre-School $100 ] Paid direct to pre-school provider

New Entrant $50 - $100 ] Paid direct to school

Year 1 to Year 10 $100 ] Paid direct to school

Year 11/12/13 $250 ] Paid direct to school

Change of School Notification Form

Tertiary Grants - Applications close 31 March each year (unless study commences during the year).

  • Full time study - $1,000 in total paid into the successful applicant’s bank account. $600 on successful application and $400 within a month of official confirmation of results being received by the CCL Office.

  • Part time study - $500 in total paid into the successful applicant’s bank account. $300 on successful application and $200 within a month of official confirmation of results being received by the CCL Office. Applications will only be considered if the application is received by CCL Directors prior to the commencement of the course.

  • In the case that there are no course fees, applications will be accepted for course-related costs. Quotes must be provided.

Tertiary Grant Application Form

Registered Vocational/Pathway Training Courses (Training related to an occupation or employment).

  • Applications may be made at any time, provided that the application is received by CCL prior to the commencement of the course.
  • Spouses/partners not eligible to apply for this grant.
  • The total allocation for Registered Vocational/Pathway Training Course grants is $500.00 per Beneficial Owner (except spouses) per financial year (1 July to 30 June).
  • Applicants may apply for more than one Vocational/Pathway Training Course grant per financial year (1 July – 30 June) up to a total annual allocation of $500.00.
  • Applications will only be accepted for courses that are offered/provided by registered (For information on what courses are “registered” visit www.nzqa.govt.nz/) education providers or for other nationally recognised accreditations (for example, NZTA driver licenses for the purposes of employment).
  • Registered Vocational/Pathway Course Grant funding allocations do not ‘roll-over’ from one year to the next and must be applied for annually/per course.
  • Registered Vocational/Pathway Training Course grants are intended to assist beneficial owners to:

1. Obtain employment (required to obtain employment)
2. Retain current employment (required to retain current employment)
3. Upskill while in current employment (enhance future job prospects through upskilling)

Applications will be accepted as per the following compositions:

Course Fees/Course-related costs combination (up to $500)

If the course fees do not total $500 the applicant may request the difference to cover course-related costs but must provide quotes for the equipment required:

Payment of up to 60% of $500 (up to $300) upon receiving proof of payment of fees from the education provider AND quotes for course related costs.
Payment of the remaining 40% (up to $200) upon receiving confirmation on the registered vocational/pathway course providers’ letterhead that the course was completed and the applicant passed; or upon receipt of the students official academic transcript showing the course has been passed.

Course fees equal $500.00

If the course fees are equal to $500.00:

60% paid towards the course fees directly to the applicant upon receiving proof of payment of fees from the education provider.
40% paid upon receiving confirmation on the registered vocational/pathway course providers’ letterhead that the course was completed and the applicant passed; or upon receipt of the students official academic transcript showing the course has been passed.

No course fees (up to $500.00)

In the case of enrolment in courses that charge no fees, the costs associated with the course of study i.e. computer, text books etc. may be applied for up to $500.00. Quotes must be provided to CCL with the application.

60% (up to $300.00) paid upon receiving quotes for course-related costs.
40% (up to $200.00) paid upon receiving confirmation on the registered vocational/pathway course providers’ letterhead that the course was completed and the applicant passed; or upon receipt of the students official academic transcript showing the papers/course have been passed.

Course fees and/or course-related costs are in excess of $500

In the case where the fees and/or course-related costs are in excess of $500.00 the application will be forwarded to Directors for consideration.

Successful applicants will receive 60% of the grant value allocated by CCL Directors, upon proof of payment of fees from the education provider and/or quotes for course related costs.
The remaining 40% will be paid upon confirmation on the registered vocational/pathway course providers’ letterhead that the course was completed and the applicant passed; or upon receipt of the students official academic transcript showing the papers/course have been passed.
